What fascinates Dr. Spellman most about what she does is the power and the spirituality of human emotion. She was determined from an early age to figure out answers to some of life’s most important questions,. She realized that by becoming a psychiatrist she could make a difference in people’s lives.
After having the opportunity to study Medicine in Europe at the University of Brussels she did her Residency Training in Psychiatry at the St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center in NYC.
Over the years in practice she has trained in multiple domains including Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Spiritual Companionship, and Directing in the Ignatian Tradition, as well as Focusing Oriented Psychotherapy.
Dr. Spellman is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (in Psychiatry). She is also certified by the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine.
Certified as well by The Focusing Institute in New York as a Focusing Oriented Therapist, Dr. Spellman has learned not only how to listen well but also how to help others to relate to their own inner emotions in a positive and life-changing way.
In order to help you more thoroughly by means of Personalized Medicine and Genetics, she has taken several online courses, including a certificate course, Case Studies in Personalized Medicine from Vanderbilt University through Coursera. taken 3 courses towards a Genetics and Genomics Certificate through the Stanford Center for Professional Development.
In her spare time, Dr Spellman is an artist.
